On June 23, 2023, the European Council granted Ukraine the status of a candidate for accession to the European Union, and accession negotiations officially opened on 25 June 2024. This means the beginning of a difficult path to EU membership. Ukrainian civil society organizations, including think tanks, play an important role in reforming the country and advocating relevant changes at all levels, including the EU.
The event aims to inform the European audience about the main challenges on the way to European integration and to talk about the efforts that Ukrainian think tanks are already making. Thematic areas for which challenges and needs will be highlighted include fundamental reforms, economy, energy, environment, climate change, etc.
What are the benefits for the EU from Ukraine’s accession to the EU? What is the Ukraine’s role in the future EU and world architecture? Is there a capacity in Ukraine (governmental level, parliament, etc.) for accelerated accession to the EU? Do think tanks and civil society in general play a role in negotiations process? These questions will guide the discussion during the online event.
