Join a presentation showcasing the results of a sustainable post-war restoration project for the community of Konotop in Sumy region, Ukraine. This project, conducted between October 2024 and May 2025, focused on two key components:
Integrated and Accessible Redesign of Pryvokzalna Ploshcha (Station Square): The city aims to transform this current parking area into a modern and accessible mobility hub and a green, climate-resilient public space. The new design, aligned with best EU practices, integrates public transport, bicycle infrastructure, parking facilities, public areas, and opportunities for business use.
Strategy for the Modernisation and Development of the Konotop Tramway System: A comprehensive strategy for Konotop's tramway system has been developed. Based on a thorough analysis of the current situation, it presents an ambitious yet realistic vision for future network expansion and a strategic approach to the rolling stock.
The content of this project holds significant relevance for numerous other cities across Ukraine. As of 2022, 18 Ukrainian cities operated tram systems, often facing similar challenges to Konotop. Furthermore, hundreds of cities of Ukraine have large railway station squares currently utilized as parking lots that need to be redesigned in a modern, sustainable and climate-resilient way.
