From Rubble to Resources: Sustainable Reconstruction in Ukraine

Organiser: Plattform Wiederaufbau Ukraine

Format: online

Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has not only caused significant human suffering and losses but has also led to a massive increase in construction and demolition waste. Due to the bombing of cities and (critical) infrastructure, waste adds up to hundreds of thousands of tons, with 185,000 tons estimated for the Kyiv region alone. The Zhytomyr, Sumy, Mykolaiv, Kherson, Chernihiv and Kharkiv oblasts are also severely affected by this problem.

After a first event on „Sustainable reconstruction: Reuse of construction waste in Ukraine“ on March 25, 2025 with contributions from Bart Gruyaert (Project Director NeoEco) and Olena Koltyk (Head of Ukraine Support Team and Co-Founder ReThink), a follow-up event will now take place on May 26.

In addition to an insight into the work for circular construction in Germany by Dominik Campanella (CEO and Co-founder Concular) and Roman Puchko (CEO ReThink) on the current situation of circular reconstruction in Ukraine, there will be plenty of room for the exchange of further ideas and the discussion of potential collaborations. The event will be chaired by Anna Ackermann (International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD).

The event will be held in English and will be recorded.
