Solar Power for Ukrainian Hospitals

Russia’s constant attacks have crippled Ukraine’s energy grid. The RePower Ukraine Charitable Foundation tackles this crisis by installing solar energy systems that keep hospitals, water utilities, and other critical infrastructure running during blackouts. The foundation is also reskilling war veterans and internally displaced persons (IDPs) for new careers in solar energy, and helps communities embrace the green transition. All these efforts aim to strengthen Ukrainian energy resilience.

In just three years, RePower Ukraine has launched projects that make Ukrainian communities more self-sufficient and sustainable:

  • Installed solar panels and battery storage in ten hospitals, ensuring life-saving backup power.

  • Built two solar power plants to secure reliable water supplies.

  • Formed fifteen partnerships with local communities to drive sustainable recovery.

For example, in 2025, RePower supported the Slobozhanske community in Kharkiv region by installing solar panels and battery storage for the local hospital and building a 32 kWp solar plant for the municipal water utility. These systems ensure water supply during shelling and reduce electricity costs. The foundation also trained 126 participants through “Solar Start” and “Solar ReStart” courses; 23 graduates now work in the solar sector, and three have launched green energy businesses.

RePower plans to expand solar projects to more hospitals, kindergartens, and essential facilities across Ukraine. This will reduce reliance on external energy sources, lower costs, and keep the lights on during outages. To ensure long-term sustainability, the team is working closely with local authorities to identify sites, coordinate budgets, tailor solutions to regional needs, and build local trust in renewable technologies. They are also scaling up educational initiatives for veterans and IDPs, supporting those most affected by the war. These new specialists will return to the workforce while helping to build a decentralised and resilient energy network for Ukraine.

RePower Ukraine is growing thanks to the support of partners and donors who share our vision of a free, energy-secure Ukraine. Your contribution helps keep hospitals open, water running, and communities hopeful even during blackouts.
