Organiser: German Platform for the Reconstruction of Ukraine
Format: online
The Russian invasion of Ukraine has not only caused significant human suffering and losses but has also led to a massive increase in construction and demolition waste. Due to the bombing of cities and (critical) infrastructure, waste adds up to hundreds of thousands of tons, with 185,000 tons estimated for the Kyiv region alone. The Zhytomyr, Sumy, Mykolaiv, Kherson, Chernihiv and Kharkiv oblasts are also severely affected by this problem.
This is a huge challenge but can also be seen as an opportunity. In the event on March 25, together with Bart Gruyaert (Project Director NeoEco) and Olena Koltyk (Head of Ukraine Support Team and Co-Founder ReThink) participants will investigate how the reuse of demolition materials can contribute to a more sustainable and resource-efficient reconstruction process.
The speakers will provide insight into the current situation in Ukraine and present successful examples from France and Germany. The event will also give the opportunity to network with each other. The event will be moderated by Anna Ackermann, policy analyst at the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD).
The event will be held in English and will be recorded.
