Advancing Sustainable Municipal Waste Management in Ukraine: Lviv Agglomeration

Organiser: CEE Bankwatch

Ukraine’s waste management sector is entering a decisive phase of reform in the context of EU integration, recovery, and growing pressure to move away from outdated disposal practices towards modern, inclusive and financially sustainable systems. The case of the Lviv agglomeration is especially relevant in this regard: it illustrates both the costs of delayed and fragmented decision-making and the opportunities created by stronger planning, inter-municipal cooperation, targeted investment, and better alignment with EU standards.

This webinar will present key findings from the research paper Advancing Sustainable Municipal Waste Management in Ukraine: Lviv Agglomeration Case Study and open a practical discussion on what needs to happen next at local, regional and national levels to implement the reform on the ground.

Speakers:

  • Yanina Basysta, NGO Ecosmart

  • Mariana Kobryn, Association “Lviv Agglomeration”

  • Lyubov Bokalo, NGO Zero Waste Lviv

  • Olga Melen- Zabramna, NGO Environment-People-Law

  • Evgeniya Tasheva, CEE Bankwatch Network
